Registration requirements
2024 RESIDENCY

Submission dates: June 30 - September 1, 2023

  1. IKUSMIRA BERRIAK will host film makers with audiovisual projects under development.
  2. Six residencies shall be awarded in total, for the following groups:
    • Participants in the last five editions of Nest  (2022-2018)
    • Students and alumni at the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola (2023 - 2021)
    • Film makers from the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, Iparralde and Nafarroa. 
    • Film makers from the rest of Spain
    • International film makers
  3. There is no fixed duration for the projects submitted, nor are there any thematic restrictions (fiction, non-fiction, etc.).
  4. Each participant may only submit one project in one sole category. A project may not be registered in different categories.
  5. Project admissions will close on September 1st 2023 at 12 midnight  (CET)
  6. Applicants should complete an online registration form available at the INSCRIPTION section. In addition to the obligatory fields, applicants must attach a pdf. including the following: 
    • Technical information (1 page)
    • Long synopsis (1 page)
    • Treatment (from 8 to 12 pages)
    • Letter of intention (1-2 pages)
    • Production information (2-3 pages)
      • Information about the producer (where this is available)
      • Budget
      • Financing plan
    • CV and bio-filmography of the director (1-2 pages)
    • Dossier language:
      • Spanish-speaking filmmakers: mandatory in Spanish
      • Non Spanish-speaking filmmakers: in English
      • Filmmakers from the Basque Community: Basque and Spanish / or Spanish
  7. Where the applicants have directed one or various previous works, links to view these should be included in point 6 of the form.
  8. An Expert Committee comprising cinematography professionals will shortlist candidates based on the documentation that has been submitted.
  9. The Ikusmira Berriak Selection Committee, comprising members of Tabakalera, San Sebastian Film Festival and Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, will make the final selection.
  10. Once the residency has been awarded, the chosen applicants will have one week to confirm their acceptance.
  11. The Committee may decide not to award the residency in one of the groups and/or to award more than one residency to one of the groups.
  12. The Committee shall also create a reserves list for each group of applicants. Applicants on the list may be granted a residency should one of the originally chosen candidates withdraw from the contest.
  13. The six selected projects will be notified in November and shall be announced once the terms of participation have been confirmed, in December. 
 
Rules for the selected projects
2024 RESIDENCY

ARTICLE 1

Ikusmira Berriak will take place in the city of San Sebastian, in Tabakalera facilities, the International Centre for Contemporary Culture. The residency will run for eight weeks split into two periods: six weeks between March - April 2024 and two weeks in September 2024.

ARTICLE 2

Once residency has been awarded, the chosen applicants must confirm their acceptance within one week.

ARTICLE 3

The filmmakers will not be able to change the project once they have been selected, they must abide by the dossier they presented in the call.

ARTICLE 4

Applicants must confirm that they accept the following commitments:

  • The chosen applicants agree to reside at their accommodation for the full duration of the residency.  Any absence must be notified in advance.
  • Participants agree to take part in all the audiovisual programme activities.
  • Participants must commit to send all the documentation requested by the organization.
  • To submit their report on the residency to the Ikusmira Berriak documentation archives, and to take part in the audiovisual record of the programme.

ARTICLE 5

The programme will cover the travel expenses, meals and accommodation.

ARTICLE 6

Each project will have a development grant of 5,000 euros that will be handed over in June, so that they can continue working on their project between the two stays of the residency.

ARTICLE 7

During the last phase of the residency (September) — coinciding with the week of the Festival — the programme will invite the producer of the selected project. The invitation will include 4 nights' accommodation and Festival accreditation. The producer agrees to follow the professional schedule which will be sent to them in advance.

ARTICLE 8

Residents may use the resources in Tabakalera and EQZE (work spaces, cinema screens, access to documentation archives, equipment, etc.).

ARTICLE 9

The programme includes one San Sebastian Film Festival accreditation (unique and non transferable). The accreditation includes free access to all cinema screens and sessions, to accredited installations open to the public, and to activities on the professional schedule, provided that the protocol agreed by the organisation is upheld.  The resident will be issued with one invitation to each of the official events and parties.

ARTICLE 10

All the projects will receive a certificate of participation from the Ikusmira Berriak Management.

ARTICLE 11

The IKUSMIRA BERRIAK name and that of the institutions involved must be included in the credits of the finished projects, in addition to their logos.
