2023 - 9th edition
9th edition
The 9th edition of Ikusmira Berriak includes several milestones: it is the first time that the selection includes projects from Africa (Egypt) and Asia (Japan) as well as a project from the Netherlands. This has led to greater heterogeneity among the residents themselves and a richer exchange of ideas. With this increase in the number of territories represented, the programme continues to diversify the geographies of the selected projects.
The networking events during both phases of the residency have also been consolidated: in March, the Filmmakers Meeting took place, in which the residents of Ikusmira Berriak, Noka and the students of EQZE took part together with professionals from the three partner institutions. In fact, during this edition, a musical group has emerged among some of the residents and they offered a small concert during the event. In September, coinciding with the San Sebastian Festival, Kabia took place, a more international meeting dedicated to emerging talent in which other programmes such as Mannheim's Cutting Edge Camp, the Catalan Film Academy or
ECAM's La Incubadora also participate along with experts attending the festival. These efforts to generate networks and contacts between industry professionals and young filmmakers will have repercussions in the medium to long term. The mediation work carried out by the institutions co-organising the programme to generate an increasingly intertwined film community is already an added value of the residency programme.
